The AccredVEd Approach to K-12 Virtual Program Accreditation and Certification
AccredVEd’s accreditation and certification process is designed to provide K-12 virtual learning programs with a thorough yet supportive evaluation. While adhering to the National Standards for Quality Online Programs, AccredVEd ensures schools receive practical feedback, clear guidance, and an evidence-based assessment of their current practices.
A Five-Phase Journey
Initial Contact & Readiness Assessment
Virtual schools and programs begin by submitting an inquiry form or scheduling a consultation. AccredVEd confirms the program’s readiness, ensuring leaders have necessary documentation and staff availability. A Readiness Tool for self-evaluation is available for download. To use the tool, download the Google Sheet to your local computer.
Documentation & NSQ Alignment Form
The school or programs completes the AccredVEd NSQ Alignment Form. This form requires program leaders to outline their alignment to each indicator within the National Standards for Quality Online Programs, referencing relevant data and artifacts.
Independent Review
AccredVEd’s review team individually evaluates the submitted documents using detailed rubrics. Each reviewer develops an unbiased assessment of the program’s strengths and areas needing improvement.
Consensus & Scoring
Reviewers convene to discuss their findings, compare notes, and finalize indicator scores. During this phase, the team forms an evidence-based consensus on whether the program meets AccredVEd’s “Minimum Standard Criteria” for each standard.
Accreditation Decision
AccredVEd issues the final determination, including a summary report highlighting commendations, recommendations, and next steps. Programs that meet the standards receive official accreditation or certification status.
