Founding Principles & Background
AccredVEd was established on the principle that K-12 virtual education deserves a specialized accreditation or certification process, one that ensures consistency, rigor, and continuous improvement. Developed under the leadership of the Virtual Learning Leadership Alliance (VLLA)—a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization—AccredVEd aims to raise the bar for virtual schools and programs across the United States. From inception, AccredVEd’s focus has been on harnessing research-based standards and expert reviewers to guide schools toward sustained excellence.

The Virtual Learning Leadership Alliance (VLLA) is a leading consortium of state virtual schools and virtual learning consortia. Collectively serving nearly a million online course enrollments each year, VLLA supports over 5,000 highly qualified teachers trained in virtual instruction. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, the Alliance focuses on strengthening virtual learning through leadership, advocacy, and the development of best practices. Its vast experience and network form the backbone of AccredVEd’s specialized accreditation and certification process, ensuring that schools programs receive expert guidance rooted in proven research and practice.
